Step 1: Explaining the Purpose of Progress Advice:
In custom manufacturing and job-shop operations, multiple unique jobs move through various production stages simultaneously. Progress Advice is an intermediate administrative tracking document prepared to:
• Provide real-time visibility into the operational status, location, and completion percentage of a specific job on the factory floor.
• Help the Production Planning and Control (PPC) department update master schedules, coordinate sequential tasks, and allocate labor or machinery efficiently to prevent production bottlenecks.
• Assist the finance and costing departments in updating work-in-progress (WIP) accounts, calculating current costs, and scheduling progress billings for customers.
Step 2: Identifying the Preparing Authority:
Progress Advice is typically prepared by the Shop Floor Foreman, Production Supervisor, or the Planning and Progress Control Department. These supervisors work directly on the production lines and are responsible for tracking actual performance against the initial production schedule. Once filled out, the Progress Advice is sent to the central administration office.
