Nature of electric current

Electric current is defined as the rate of flow of charge:

The arrow used in circuit diagrams only indicates the direction of flow of positive charge (conventional current).
Step 2: Why current is not a vector
Although current has direction, it does not obey vector addition rules. For example:
• Currents in a wire do not combine using parallelogram law.
• Current is completely described by magnitude and sign along a chosen direction.
Hence, current is treated as a scalar quantity with direction (signed scalar).
