Thermal and Overload Protection: Always use a circuit breaker or starter equipped with a thermal overload relay of the correct rating to prevent the windings from burning out during overloads or stalling.
Capacitor and Switch Maintenance: Regularly inspect starting capacitors and the centrifugal switch. A sticky switch can keep the starting capacitor in the circuit too long, causing it to overheat and burst.
Avoid Starting on Full Load: Do not start Split-Phase or Shaded-Pole motors under heavy load since their starting torque is low.

Simple Power Supply: They operate on a standard, single-phase AC supply, which is universally available in homes, offices, and small shops.
Cost-Effective for Low Power: For fractional horsepower applications (below 1 HP), single-phase motors are cheaper and simpler to install than three-phase systems.
Step 3: Disadvantages compared to Three-Phase Induction Motors:
Not Self-Starting naturally: They require auxiliary windings, centrifugal switches, and capacitors to start, which increases mechanical complexity.
Lower Power Factor and Efficiency: They operate at a lower power factor and are less efficient than three-phase motors of equivalent ratings.
Higher Vibration and Noise: Due to pulsating torque, they produce more mechanical vibration and hum.
Larger Frame Size: For the same output power, a single-phase motor requires a larger frame size and is heavier than a three-phase motor.
