Concept:
Sustainable tourism is defined as tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities. To integrate these sustainable frameworks into the mainstream hospitality industry, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, drafted a comprehensive national roadmap.
Step 1:
The Ministry of Tourism launched the
'National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism' and the subsequent 'Travel for LiFE' initiative in collaboration with the
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI).
Step 2:
The strategy outlines seven distinct strategic pillars:
• Promoting Environmental Sustainability
• Protecting Biodiversity
• Promoting Economic Sustainability
• Promoting Socio-Cultural Sustainability
• Certification Schemes for Sustainable Tourism
• IEC, Education, and Capacity Building
• Governance frameworks
Since the primary goal is to minimize carbon footprints, manage plastic and solid wastes at tourist destinations, and preserve biodiversity, the global partnership was naturally forged with the UN's leading environmental body, UNEP, making option (A) the correct choice.
