The Khelo India Fitness Test battery for the 9 to 18 age group includes more than one strength-related test; besides the abdominal curl-up, the Standing Broad Jump is used specifically to measure the explosive strength of the leg muscles. Its procedure is described in full below.
Starting position: The student stands behind a marked take-off line with feet slightly apart, toes just behind the line, and both feet flat on the ground.
Preparation: The student bends the knees and swings both arms backward to gather momentum, exactly as in a standing long jump run-up substitute.
Execution: Using a simultaneous two-foot take-off, the student swings the arms forward and jumps as far horizontally as possible, landing on both feet without falling backward or touching the ground with the hands.
Measurement: The distance is measured from the take-off line to the nearest point of contact made by the body on landing, usually the heel closest to the line, and typically the best of two or three attempts is recorded.
This test isolates the explosive power of the leg muscles, since jumping the greatest possible distance from a stationary start depends directly on how much force the legs can generate in a single burst.
