Step 2: Concern 2: Deforestation and Biodiversity Loss.
Rapid destruction of tropical rainforests—such as the Amazon rainforest—for agriculture, timber, and urban expansion threatens global carbon sinks and biological diversity. Because rich natural biodiversity is concentrated in developing nations of the Global South, while consumption demands stem largely from the Global North, habitat destruction and species extinction have become contentious issues in sustainable development negotiations.
