Classify the following measures as scalars and vectors.
(i)10kg
(ii)2metres north-west
(iii)40°
(iv)40watt
(v)10-19coulomb
(vi)20m/s2
(i)10kg is a scalar quantity because it involves only magnitude.
(ii) 2 meters north-west is a vector quantity as it involves both magnitude and direction.
(iii)40°is a scalar quantity as it involves only magnitude.
(iv)40 watts is a scalar quantity as it involves only magnitude.
(v)10-19 coulomb is a scalar quantity as it involves only magnitude.
(vi)20m/s2 is a vector quantity as it involves magnitude as well as direction.
A racing track is built around an elliptical ground whose equation is given by \[ 9x^2 + 16y^2 = 144 \] The width of the track is \(3\) m as shown. Based on the given information answer the following:
(i) Express \(y\) as a function of \(x\) from the given equation of ellipse.
(ii) Integrate the function obtained in (i) with respect to \(x\).
(iii)(a) Find the area of the region enclosed within the elliptical ground excluding the track using integration.
OR
(iii)(b) Write the coordinates of the points \(P\) and \(Q\) where the outer edge of the track cuts \(x\)-axis and \(y\)-axis in first quadrant and find the area of triangle formed by points \(P,O,Q\).
In general, vectors are used in Maths and Science and are categorized into 10 different types of vectors such as:-
