Concept:
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, categorized by the chemical nature of their "R" groups (side chains). Only a few amino acids contain elements beyond Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen.
Step 1: Review Sulfur-containing amino acids.
There are two primary proteinogenic amino acids that contain Sulfur:
• Cysteine: Contains a thiol (\(-SH\)) group.
• Methionine: Contains a thioether (\(-S-CH_3\)) group.
Step 2: Cross-reference with options.
• Tyrosine: Contains a phenolic ring (Hydroxyl).
• Alanine: Simple methyl side chain (Hydrocarbon).
• Serine: Contains a hydroxyl (\(-OH\)) group.
• Methionine: Contains Sulfur.
