Malaria is spread by female Anopheles mosquitoes. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Their larvae live in water and come to the surface to breathe air. When kerosene oil is spread on stagnant water, it forms a thin layer on the surface. This layer prevents mosquito larvae from breathing properly. Kerosene also harms the larvae and prevents their growth. Therefore, putting kerosene oil on stagnant water helps in preventing the breeding of mosquitoes. So Assertion (A) is correct. Reason (R) is also correct because kerosene is harmful to mosquitoes and their larvae. It explains why kerosene is used on stagnant water. Hence, both Assertion and Reason are correct, and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
