Ethylene is the precursor of Ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is a gaseous compound used in industrial applications, such as sterilization and as a precursor in the production of ethylene glycol. Ethylene, a plant hormone, also plays a key role in fruit ripening and stress responses.
