Concept:
Earthenware is a low-fire ceramic material. Unlike stoneware or porcelain, it does not achieve full vitrification (glassification) during firing, remaining highly porous and opaque.
Step 1:
Earthenware clay bodies are designed to mature at lower temperatures to preserve certain oxide colors and save fuel. The typical firing range is measured in pyrometric cones, usually between cone 08 and cone 1.
Step 2:
In standard firing charts:
• Cone 08 is approximately 940°C - 950°C.
• Cone 04 is approximately 1060°C.
• Cone 1 is approximately 1136°C.
Step 3:
• Option (1) 600°C - 800°C is too low (barely past ceramic change/red heat).
• Option (2) 800°C - 1200°C is too broad, bleeding into mid-fire stoneware.
• Option (3) 900°C - 1000°C is a bit too narrow and low for mature glaze firings.
• Option (4) 943°C to 1135°C perfectly encapsulates the standard low-fire (earthenware) pyrometric cone spectrum (Cone 08 to Cone 1).
Step 4:
Option 4 represents the most accurate, standardized temperature range for earthenware.
