Concept:
Swapnwasvdattam (The Vision of Vasavadatta) is considered one of the finest examples of the Nataka genre, focusing on themes of political strategy, sacrifice, and romantic love.
Step 1: Identifying the playwright and their historical impact.
The play was written by Bhas. He is one of the earliest and most celebrated Sanskrit dramatists, predating even Kaalidaas. For centuries, his works were thought to be lost until a manuscript containing thirteen of his plays was discovered in Kerala in the early 20th century. Swapnwasvdattam is the most famous of these, telling the story of King Udayana and his grief for Queen Vasavadatta, whom he believes is dead.
