Concept:
The Gandhi-Irwin Pact was a political agreement signed by Mahatma Gandhi and the then Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin, on March 5, 1931, before the second Round Table Conference in London.
Step 1: Understanding the Context.
Following the salt march and the Civil Disobedience Movement, the British government sought a compromise. Because the negotiations took place in the capital city, the agreement is officially and historically referred to as the Delhi Pact.
Step 2: Differentiating from other Pacts.
• Poona Pact (1932): An agreement between Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar regarding electoral seats for depressed classes.
• Karachi Session (1931): The Congress session where the Gandhi-Irwin pact was endorsed.
