An inverse transducer is one that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. The piezoelectric transducer is an example of an inverse transducer.
- Piezoelectric materials generate an electrical charge when subjected to mechanical stress, but when the polarity is reversed, they can produce mechanical displacement upon application of an electrical signal. Hence, it is an inverse transducer.
- Thermistors, Photovoltaic cells, and LVDTs are direct transducers, as they convert one form of energy directly into another without any reversal.
