The headquarters of the International Olympic Committee is in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The IOC was founded in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who is also known as the father of the modern Olympic Games. The committee moved its headquarters to Lausanne in 1915, during the First World War, because Switzerland was a neutral country.
Lausanne is often called the Olympic Capital because, besides the IOC office, it also hosts the Olympic Museum. The IOC is responsible for organising the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, choosing host cities, and maintaining the Olympic Charter.
