Concept:
The arrangement of warp yarns in a loom determines the final weave pattern. Weavers use technical shorthand (drawings) to communicate how a loom should be set up.
Step 1: Define the drafting process.
The Drafting order (or drawing-in plan) specifies which heald shaft each warp thread passes through. For example, in a plain weave, the first thread goes through shaft 1, the second through shaft 2, and so on. This order is the blueprint for creating the pattern.
Step 2: Contrast with other orders.
• Denting order (1): Refers to how many threads pass through each gap in the reed.
• Warping order (3, 4): Refers to the arrangement of yarns on the warp beam during the preparatory stage, not the setup inside the loom shafts.
