Concept:
For a polymer to be suitable for fiber formation, it must possess specific molecular and structural characteristics.
Step 1: Molecular Chain Structure.
Fiber-forming polymers must be B (Linear polymers). This allows the chains to align parallel to each other. They must also have strong lateral bonds (like Hydrogen bonds) to hold the chains together. C (Three dimensional/cross-linked polymers) are unsuitable because they cannot be stretched or aligned into a fiber.
Step 2: Internal Morphology.
A fiber must have a balance of D (Crystalline and amorphous regions). The crystalline parts provide strength, while the amorphous parts provide flexibility and dyeability.
Step 3: Alignment.
Finally, the ability to achieve A (Molecular orientation) along the fiber axis is essential to provide the necessary tensile strength for textile use.
