Concept:
The knitting cycle describes the mechanical path of the needle required to form a new stitch.
Step 1: Preparation for the New Yarn.
As the needle rises, the old loop slides down, causing C (Latch opening). The needle continues to rise until the old loop is completely off the latch and onto the stem, which is D (Needle reaches to the clearing height).
Step 2: Formation.
The new yarn is then placed into the hook via B (Yarn feeding). As the needle descends, the hook catches the new yarn, resulting in A (Loop formation and pulling).
Step 3: Completion.
Finally, the old loop slides up the closed latch and is thrown off the needle entirely, a process called E (Casting off).
