Chapter VIII of the CrPC deals with 'Security for Keeping the Peace and for Good Behaviour'. Section 107 specifically empowers an Executive Magistrate to take action when they receive information that a person is likely to commit a breach of the peace or disturb public tranquility. The Magistrate can require such a person to show cause why they should not be ordered to execute a bond for keeping the peace for a period not exceeding one year. It is a preventive, not punitive, measure.
