Concept:
Chhau (or Chau) is a spectacular semi-classical dance-drama form native to eastern India. It combines martial mock-combat, acrobatics, and storytelling, and is practiced across three highly specific geographic locations.
Step 1: Isolating the three authentic styles of Chhau.
Chhau is divided strictly into three regional variants, named after the towns where they developed:
• Purulia Chhau: Native to West Bengal, heavily characterized by massive, energetic masks representing gods and demons.
• Seraikela Chhau: Native to Jharkhand, utilizing highly stylized, refined masks that reflect abstract poetic themes.
• Mayurbhanj Chhau: Native to Odisha, unique because the performers dance without masks, relying entirely on body control.
*Yakshagana* is a distinct folk-theatre tradition from Karnataka, and *Bhavai* belongs to Gujarat. Thus, rows B, C, and D form the core group, leading cleanly to Option (2).
