Answer: Aedes.
Step 1: Zika virus is transmitted mainly through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, chiefly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.
Step 2: These are the same Aedes mosquitoes that transmit dengue and chikungunya, which makes Aedes an easy triad to remember.
Step 3: Zika can also spread through sexual contact and from mother to fetus. The mosquito acquires the virus when it bites an infected person during the viraemic phase, usually the first week of infection. Culex transmits Japanese encephalitis and West Nile, while Anopheles transmits malaria, so they are not the Zika vector.
