The Right to Property was originally a Fundamental Right under Article 19(1)(f) and Article 31 of the Constitution. It was removed from the list of Fundamental Rights by the 44th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1978. This amendment was enacted during the tenure of the Janata Party government, which was led by Prime Minister Morarji Desai. The right was not completely abolished but was converted into a constitutional/legal right under a new article, Article 300-A, which states that "No person shall be deprived of his property save by authority of law."
