Section 216 of the IPC deals with the offence of "Harbouring an offender who has escaped from custody or whose apprehension has been ordered." The section provides for varying levels of punishment depending on the seriousness of the offence for which the harboured person was liable. Specifically, Section 216(1) states that if the offence for which the person is to be apprehended is punishable with death (a capital offence), the person harbouring them shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years.
