Concept:
A Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) is an inspection system that determines the 3D coordinates of a part's surface points using a data-gathering probe tip. CMM probes are categorized into contact and non-contact types:
• Touch-trigger Probes (Contact): Actively record a single coordinate point whenever the physical stylus contacts the part surface.
• Scanning Probes (Contact): Drag along the workpiece profile to gather a continuous stream of data points.
• Laser Probes (Non-contact): Use optical triangulation or time-of-flight laser beams to measure surface profiles without making physical contact.
Step 1: Assess "Electromagnetic" as a CMM probe system.
While CMM probes use electrical contacts, optical sensors, or strain gauges to detect displacement, they do not use electromagnetic field variations as a primary mechanism to trace and inspect part geometry. Therefore, it is not a common or standard probe configuration.
