Correct option (the one that is NOT a component): Expected complications after surgery.
Step 1: The Thoracoscore is the most widely used model to estimate in-hospital operative mortality risk for thoracic surgery patients, built from defined preoperative variables.
Step 2: Its actual nine variables are: age, sex, ASA class, performance (WHO) status, dyspnoea score, priority of surgery (elective/urgent/emergency), extent/diagnosis group of surgery, number of comorbidities, and the procedure class (pneumonectomy or not).
Step 3: ASA classification, surgery priority and performance status are all genuine components, so they cannot be the answer. Expected post-operative complications is NOT one of the input variables (the score predicts mortality, not complications), so it is the odd one out.
Note on the printed key: the recall key marks surgery priority as the non-component, but surgery priority is a true Thoracoscore variable, so the medically correct answer is expected complications.
