In the aquatint process, the plate is placed in a rosin box where rosin particles are evenly distributed over its surface. Heat is then applied to melt the particles, which adhere to the plate and act as a resist during acid etching.
This technique helps achieve tonal effects by controlling the acid's exposure to the plate.
