Question:

Read the information provided and answer the question that follows:
Given below in the first chart is the percentage distribution of total cars (MUV & SUV) distributed by 8 dealers, namely, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H across the country. Similarly, the second chart shows the SUV cars distributed by the same dealers in the year 2023. Further, it is known that the sum total of SUV and MUV cars sold by all the 8 dealers for the year 2023 is 56000 and the total number of SUV cars sold during the same duration is 32000.
Determine the average number of MUV cars distributed by dealers A, D, E, F and H together?

Show Hint

When calculating values for a large subset of categories, sum the percentages first before multiplying by the base value. It saves you from calculating 5 separate data points individually!

The Correct Option is D

Solution and Explanation

Step 1:
Identify the formula.
Number of MUVs = Total Cars - SUV Cars.
We need the sum for A, D, E, F, and H.

Step 2:
Calculate the group sums.
For A, D, E, F, H in Chart 1 (Total Cars): $18\% + 15\% + 20\% + 8\% + 9\% = 70\%$.
Total Cars for group = $0.70 \times 56,000 = 39,200$.
For A, D, E, F, H in Chart 2 (SUV Cars): $16\% + 13\% + 22\% + 8\% + 12\% = 71\%$.
SUV Cars for group = $0.71 \times 32,000 = 22,720$.

Step 3:
Calculate MUV average.
Total MUV for group = $39,200 - 22,720 = 16,480$.
Average = $\frac{16,480}{5} = 3,296$.
