Step 1: The pointed, straight, sharp-tipped blade shown is the No. 11 surgical blade. Its narrow triangular point is designed for stab incisions.
Step 2: The No. 11 blade is used for small precise stab incisions: inserting a laparoscopic port, placing vein and artery central lines, opening the aorta, and excising calcifications from the aortic or mitral valves.
Step 3: Why the distractors are wrong: the No. 15 blade has a small curved cutting belly for fine, short incisions; the No. 10 blade is a larger curved belly blade for general skin incisions; the No. 12 blade is a curved, hook-like (sickle) blade used in oral and tonsillar surgery. None has the sharp straight point seen here.
